With only 2 weeks to go, it's time to grab your wooden spoons, don your aprons and dust off the mixmaster.
Everyone in the community is encouraged to enter the "Best Pie in the West" competition at our fabulous Fete. Whether you are a young, budding novice or an experienced chef, this is the place to show off your culinary talents. Entry fee for each pie or tart is only $2 and your pie must be cooked fresh at home no more than 4 hours before judging if it is hot. It can be made the night before if it is to be cooled but it must be handled according to the City of Wanneroo food regulations. Delivery must be made to the school cooking room (next to the Allan Shaw Centre) between 10:00 am and 11:30am for judging. The anticipation for our wonderful community fete is certainly building each week. Less than six weeks remain before the gates swing open and welcome everyone for a truly memorable experience.
Cultural groups are rehearsing and we wait in eager anticipation to immerse ourselves in the glorious drumbeats from the African Drumming Group. The Chinese and Balinese dancers are also a sight to behold, resplendent in their traditional costumes and perfectly-timed cultural movement. Our youngest community members have so many stalls and rides to capture their attention for hours- they won't know which one to visit first! It goes without saying that Elsa from 'Frozen' will undoubtedly be inundated with little friends all day. Equally as enthralling, the multiple rides, ponies, jewellery making, merry-go-round and litte sparkles face painting. Our adventurous teenagers have not been left behind with plenty of trendy cuisines to devour, rides, entertainment and don't miss the opportunity to dunk your favourite teacher in the dunk tank! If you haven't already marked your calendar, do it now !! Saturday, 7th March from 11 AM. We look forward to seeing you there. Our community has certainly lived up to the definition of what it means to have common values in recent days! The support, tireless effort and strength demonstrated by so many people whilst protecting lives and homes from bushfires is admirable. Their work has been exemplary and the 'can-do' attitude is evident in the multiple boxes of food, drinks, supplies, and medical assistance for injured wildlife- just to name a few.
I feel very blessed and privileged to be considered an integral part of a remarkable group of authentic individuals. It is exactly this spirit which underpins our upcoming community fete to be held on Saturday, 7th March. Book this important date in your diary- tell everyone you know and lets celebrate what it really means to be part of an incredible, committed community !!!! Harmony Day is held on the 21st of March each year in Australia. It is a national recognition of our multicultural society and promotes social inclusion; regardless of background or circumstance. We have embedded the spirit of Harmony Day into our Community Fete in the form of colourful tie-dye features, along with the emphasis of an enormous welcome to everyone in our Perth community. Additionally, we are featuring cuisines from different countries, various cultural acts, and essentially promoting the message “everyone belongs”. By participating in our Fete, you will be an important part of celebrating the diversity that has made our country such a special place to live.
The judging of the fete poster competition is happening right now!
WHO will WIN the JB Hi-FI Vouchers? If you are a hobbyist, a business, or a not-for-profit organisation- we would encourage you to set up a stall in our Craft Pavilion (in the Alan Shaw Centre). Stalls are $60 for a business and $30 for a hobbyist. Each stall holder can promote their business and sell their wares, retaining 100% of profits throughout the event. This is obviously a fantastic opportunity to gain broad exposure to a huge amount of people with very little outlay.
We have a huge amount of registered interest in our craft fair pavilion and it is anticipated to be a hive of excitement and artistic expression on the big day. If you would like to book a stall or enquire about the craft fair, please contact Amanda Chila [email protected] 0412590237 It has been 18 months in the planning and our Grand Community Fete is ready for countdown!
